When registering the car in your name the DMV will ask to witness the VIN# prior to registering the car in your name.

I had to do this when I registered my 55' which had a mainland registration.

I hooked up my tow bar and took my 55' to the DMV when I did my registration. The lady came out and looked at the vin # and in we went to complete the registration and transfering process.

Drove the car that day, legally.

Hope this helps.

thanx spencer that helps a lot. now the thing is when i go there with the car i know they'll say some thing about the rims and lowered suspention and say go to recon which would be another problem cause of the shaved doors that's why i'm looking for options what would be cheaper change the doors or add the handles cause $$$ is an issue take a look @ the pics of the car you'll see what i mean and thanx very much for the info

I took my 55' to the Kapolei DMV fully loaded.

Polish centerlines, raised trans, 2165 race motor with the 48's hanging out the back hood, and nothing but attitude in the car. See the attached pic. This is how the car looked when I took it to the DMV.

The lady came out, said wow nice car. Checked the vin number and walked back to the counter.

You can call the DMV motor control division and ask them about the door handle.  It will be the wise choice to register your vehicle as a street rod. As long as a vehicle 1967 and below, you can do this. The requirements are: 1-Hydraulic service brakes on all 4 wheels. 2- Sealed beam or Halogen Headlights. 3- Turn signals and a turn signaling switch. 4- Safety glass or lexan windshield. 5-Electric or vacuum windshield wiper located in front of driver. 6- Standard D.O.T. tailights. 7- Parking brake that operates 2 wheels on same axle ( E- Brake). 8- Seat Belts. It looks like you might have a problem with your wipers. First thing you do is go get your car weighed by a certified scale and get their scalemasters certificate. Next go to the sattelite city hall, and tell them you want to register your vehicle a special interest street rod. They will fax your information to motor vehicle control. They will in turn contact you to setup a appointment. Call 733-2542 and ask for Byron.

Thanx Kenny Boy that's what i want to do street rod just neva no how.but if i get street rod do i still need recon? and you'er right bout the wiper but Dran Sheldon is helping me out to get the car ready' thanx for da 411. i hope it goes smooth i want to take to da next cruz. till then ALOHA!!!

I spoke with Duane today at motor vehicle control. He said the door handle is good.

thanx again kenny boy!!! when you say the door handle is good does that mean ok to have shaved doors? i hope so cause that means i only need wipers

Yes .your shaved handles are allowed.

...but, you still have to have a manual way to open the door from the outside (for safety reasons) or it won't pass.

i'm looking for a place that install's pop locks they put an out side manual button in case the battery dies would that work? or just not put windows cause it's not an DD it's just to cruz 1 or 2 times a month or just the cruz nites.MAHALO NUI !!! tom

what if i building a dunebuggy on  a 68 and later pan? do you know what the differences are?
